EmPower Consumers believes that before America can reach agreement on a greener tomorrow, it must take care of its families and communities today. Consumers voices can not go unheard nor should our pockets be picked. We believe the future of energy policy in America should be shaped by the views and ideas of the people that call it home.
The electric power affordability crisis represents a particularly ominous issue confronting the working middle class and economically disadvantaged consumers’ physical and economic survival. Often, those most negatively impacted by the affordability issue are least likely to be heard. In our democracy, every voice is entitled to be heard.
Our Nation's ability to achieve environmentally friendly, affordable, reliable and safe electric power is one of the most critical issues facing us in the 21st Century. The overall electric power affordability issue is quickly becoming more than just a survival issue for consumers who are economically disadvantaged but is becoming an issue that can affect our Nation's financial stability and national security. Unless electricity is affordable, electric power is of no value to the consumer.
EmPower Consumers was created to focus public policy makers, regulators and industry on the financial impact and affordability element of the energy equation and its effect on the working middle class and economically disadvantaged consumers balanced against environmental impacts, availability and safety at each point along the path.
